Wow, I can’t believe I was knocked off my roost and have been flying the coop with Babbs for a year already! I really can’t believe all the stuff I’ve done in 12 months time that I never even thought about doing before. Heck, I’ve done stuff I didn’t even think I could do and have lived to tell the tale. I’ve met some pretty phenomenal women from all over the United States and made some lasting friendships. Best of all, I’ve watched The WON go from an idea Babbs had to support women in the outdoors to an online cornucopia of information for and about women just like you!
This time last year, I would never have dreamed that I would:
- Sit on the side of a hill with Babbs during deer season freezing my tailfeathers off waiting for a big fat doe to stroll by (One didn’t but I had a blast despite the frozen tailfeathers.)
- Go to the National Wild Turkey Federation convention in Nashville with Babbs and Tammy Ballew where I met Tisma Juett, another outdoors woman
- Become a member of The Women’s Outdoor Media Association along with Tammy and Tisma
- Sit in a cold cabin on Sunnyside Farm all by myself waiting for a turkey to trot by (One didn’t but once again, I had a blast. I even took a picture of myself to prove I’d done it.)
- Go pheasant hunting and become a Suburban Housewife
- Learn to drive a 4-wheeler
- Learn to shoot a handgun
- Buy a handgun
- Shoot trap and actually HIT something
- Go to Babes with Bullets™ camp in Iowa
- Visit a museum of osteopathy
- Learn to shoot a 30/30 rifle so I can be the one waiting for that big fat doe to stroll by during deer season this year
I’m still pinching myself! I’m also looking forward to what the next year holds for The WON, especially now that Tammy Ballew has joined Babbs and me. Hey, we’re already making plans for the 2010 National Wild Turkey Convention! I just LOVE those road trips with Babbs. When that woman comes out of the woods, you better watch out!

Paige,
A great article! It’s so exciting all the new things you’ve tried just in this past year. I know you’ll have an important impact on women who want to learn more about the shooting and hunting sports. I am so proud to become a part of The WON and I’m truly looking forward to working with you and Babbs.
Thanks for everything!
Tammy
Thanks, Paige. I am looking forward to what another year at The WON holds, too. I’m pretty sure that Nashville will have IHOP and BBKING again in the same day, or space of 26 hours at least. And, where is that parking garage again? Thanks for your work … on the website and as an editor.
