Gillette to Welcome The First Lady… of Hunting

NWTF National Spokesperson, Brenda Valentine, will be attending the Thunder Basin Youth Outdoor Field Day in Gillette, Wyo., on July 17, 2010.

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Brenda Valentine’s outdoor journey began in Tennessee and has taken her to the plains of Africa, the glaciers of Alaska and many places in between. Her exploits along the way earned her the title, The First Lady of Hunting.

On July 17 she’ll be in Gillette, Wyo., as a guest speaker and instructor at the Thunder Basin Youth Outdoor Field Day. This free event is open to youth ages 18 and under and will take place at the Gillette Gun Club, located at the intersection of Warlow Drive and Hannum Road in Gillette.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., experienced instructors will help young participants try activities like archery, firearm marksmanship, fly-fishing, turkey calling, outdoor photography and more. Youth of all skill levels are encouraged to participate and parents are invited to stay. Along with Valentine, Allen Treadwell of Bass Pro Shops’ Redhead Pro Hunting Team will be in attendance and serve as the guest trap- and skeet-shooting instructor.

As an NWTF National Spokesperson, host of “Turkey Call” on the Pursuit Channel and co-host of Bass Pro Shops’ “Real Hunting TV” on the Versus network, Valentine travels the country proclaiming her love for the outdoors and support of the NWTF.

“The best part about being an NWTF member is that the Federation has something for everyone. Male or female, young or old, it’s rewarding to be a steward of North America’s wildlife and habitat and that’s what the NWTF is all about,” said Valentine. “Everyone who attends the Thunder Basin Youth Outdoor Field Day is in for a great time. The volunteers have worked hard to ensure that young participants will have a safe and educational experience enjoying a variety of outdoor activities.”

Through dynamic partnerships with state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its volunteers have helped restore wild turkey populations across the country, raised and spent more than $306 million, and conserved nearly 14 million acres of habitat for all types of wildlife.

The Federation also works to increase interest in the outdoors by bringing new hunters and conservationists into the fold through special outdoor education events and its Women in the Outdoors, Wheelin’ Sportsmen, JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) and Xtreme JAKES outreach programs.

NWTF partners for the Thunder Basin Youth Outdoor Field Day include the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Pheasants Forever, Mule Deer Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife and Ducks Unlimited.
