For the portrait of Jessica in Montana, I was shooting with a Mamiya 645 medium format camera with 80 mm lens. As you can see from the photograph, I used a tripod and had a portable flash (Nikon SB800) through an umbrella for a little fill light.

Since it was an overcast day, Jessica was placed with her back to the sun providing a natural hair light.
I prefer a simple lighting set up when shooting on location and try to work with the natural light as much as possible.
For environmental portraits, the landscape is as important as the subject. For this particular shot, I liked the way Jessica was standing in between the two telephone poles in the ackground and thought the clouds anchored the upper quadrant of the picture.
