I just found this quote and I love it:

“Your heaviest artillery will be your will to live. Keep that big gun going.”
    Norman Cousins

And I’d like to add that not only is it your will to live, but I believe it’s your will to live the best and most fulfilled and sparked life possible that is our best weapon. It’s what keeps us going when we’re scared. It’s what helps us get up when we’ve fallen down. It’s what pushes us forward no matter how dark the path may seem. It’s the light.

I LOVE this website and all the discussion here. ROCK ON MY LADY FRIENDS!!

“Girls, Take your guns to town! ” A take on Johnny Cash’s song! I love that as of now in the US (in most states) CCW is still an option. We need to stand up for our rights to carry for protection, hunting, and going to the range.

“Don’t forget your gun!” as said to me by my husband. Now, for many of you, this may not be that unusual. But for a girl who grew up in MA, never owning a gun, or really around guns or hunting…..I just loved hearing this. Since moving to CO, and meeting my husband and becoming more familiear with guns and hunting…this just makes me smile!

I recently read some thoughts from a book titled, “Personal Defense for Women” written by Gila Hayes. She said (with my paraphrasing) , as little girls we are taugh to avoid strangers, keep window shades down, and never go out alone at night. We were taught to behave quietly, dress modestly and pray that you do not attract criminal attention. We were never taught how to defend ourselves if all those things failed.” She basically said, it’s time we take charge of the protection of our own, and our families lives. It makes good sense to me!

My great grandmother was the first person who taught me what it was like to be really strong. To stand up when others put you down and to never let them decide who you are. Even if I didn’t know she was doing it at the time. This strength is a legacy that she passed onto my grandmother, my mother and now me. I’m proud to say I was the first woman in my family to own a gun, and though many of the other women don’t understand how I can ‘have those things’ in the house. All I can do is think of my mom, and Greatgrandma, both the strongest women I know, and smile and tell them ‘if someone tries breaking into my house, they may THINK they’re going to scare me and my mom and sister. But the sound of me cocking the shock gun will surely put the fear of god in them.”

Never point a weapon at anything unless you intend to use it the way it was meant to be used.

My daddy taught me that and I live my life by that… I have had had to make that decision before and i am glad that I had my weapon as a choice to use, but didn’t have to. People find out very quickly that an armed woman is a scary thing to have to face, especially if they know how to use the weapon in their hand.

I’m proud to be a woman and a gun lover. Thanks DADDY for all that you taught me about it and for giving me the strength to use them the way there are supposed to be used…I LOVE YOU!

My second husband and I had a friend who was a doubting Thomas about my shooting skills. He wouldn’t take my husbands word that I could shoot, and there really had never been a reason to show him. Finally one day he got on my husbands nerves, as we were out on the farm we both were wearing our sidearms. Suddenly my husband said, “Show him.” And threw a pop can up and off the porch, I pulled my 9mm out, kicked the slide back and began shooting. All six shots hit true and I had that can dancing all over the place. The doubting Thomas was standing with his chin down about his knees somewhere. Everywhere we all went after that his words were always, “Don’t mess with her, she’ll have you full of holes before you know she even drew on you.” We thought it was funny.

I love to talk to women who are first time shooters at our local range. They seem so nervous before they go in to try it for the first time. After the normal safety hints, I tell them that the most important thing to remember is BREATHE. Then I tell them not to feel bad when they shoot better than their husband/boyfriend/brother. Best part is after they are done and they come out smiling showing me their targets. And most times they ARE better than the mans!
