Ashley wins the BlackHawk! holster and Girls with Guns giveaway

Ashley Berard, who pens the blog “Extraordinary Outdoors,”wins the super giveaway from Blackhawk! and Girls with Guns Clothing. Her comment, regarding what she would pack in that Serpa Level 2 retention thigh rig, was,

“What a great giveaway! I’ve always been a rifle girl myself, but have been pondering with the idea of getting a Glock. My daughter and I do a lot of lone hiking, so a hand gun would be “handy” during the non hunting months!

Good luck to all who have entered! :)

We like her attitude, her spirit and her blog. Check it out, too! And, thanks, Ashley — for your comments and your contributions to the outdoor world.

“Dear My Gun Culture,

We know you wrote the authoritative free book on holsters, i.e., “My Gun Culture’s Insanely Practical Holster Guide.” In fact, we suspect you might think you’re a bit of a hotshot when it comes to holsters. We just think you forgot one important component of the market – women. That could be a whole new chapter or hey, make that a sequel to your book that can be purchased at various online venues or downloaded for free at your website.

What do women want in a holster?

Since people often compare owning a good-fitting firearm to a pair of comfy shoes – in that it must work for your hand, how you carry, what you intend to use it for, etc. – we request that you put your acerbic wit and holster-horse-sense to the test.

In fact, we’re going to challenge you. Let’s see if you can find a holster that is more alluring and downright functional for utilitarian reasons than this BlackHawk Level 2 Tactical Serpa Holster.

Why do we like it so?

  • Flexible thigh platform conforms to leg size
  • Y-harness suspension system distributes weight evenly, keeps holster vertical when kneeling, and allows use of pants pocket
  • Quick-disconnect swivel buckles allow superior flexibility and quick holster mounting and dismounting
  • Accessory mounting locations for pouches, knives, mag cases, etc.
  • Rubberized leg straps eliminate sliding
  • Passive retention detent adjustment screw and SERPA® Auto Lock™ release
  • Reinforces full master grip and superior draw technique Immediate retention and audible click upon re-holster for increased officer safety
  • Full-length holster body protects rear sights
  • Same drawing technique for undercover, tactical, and duty
  • Hole in holster body for bungee retention if desired

Here’s Babbs in the Woods wearing her thigh rig and finding a rub. Photo courtesy of Jason Baird

One of our editors, Babbs in the Woods, wears this one when she’s in the woods.  She likes that it keeps her hands free and her waist unencumbered. She can tear around on her ATV, without the gun digging into her ribcage. Or, she can manhandle a set of pruners with freedom to turn while trimming a pesky rose bush from a tree stand set-up. And if she’s wearing a pack, it’s one less thing around the middle. And this holster features the retention system that she likes — keeps her trigger finger where it needs to be in the draw, up top on the action instead of on the trigger. And, it holds the gun securely during twists and turns and bends and pops.

In fact, she likes the thigh rig so much that she asked BlackHawk to gift one to The WON and they did. And we’re going to give one away next Monday, Nov. 4.

So many to choose from … we suggest first picking your thigh rig, then your hoodie, then your hat.

And there’s more. Our lucky winner also may choose a hat from the extensive lineup of GWG hats. Will it be a knit beanie or a script bucket or a crackle buck military hat? You choose if you win.

What say you, MGC? Do you want to play? Girls with Guns also is offering a lucky winner from your readership an opportunity to win a hoodie and hat. But, you gotta throw in a holster, Man.

That’s if you can think of one that we women would like.

Hey, Readers  … which gun of yours needs this holster? Leave your comment here and you’ll be entered in the contest.
