LARAMIE, WYO — The Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt has opened up registration and sponsorship opportunities for its 2014 hunt, which will be held Oct. 9-12 in northeastern Wyoming.
The Wyoming Women’s Foundation created the hunt to promote camaraderie and mentorship through hunting while raising awareness of and funds for the Foundation’s mission to improve the economic self-sufficiency of women in the state.
Female hunters of all experience levels are encouraged to attend the weekend hunt which emphasizes safe and responsible hunting. During this guided hunt on private and public land, more experienced hunters are paired with women who have little experience with hunting. To ensure the success of the event, the Wyoming Women’s Foundation is seeking event sponsors. Each sponsor, based on the level of their contribution, will have the opportunity to invite women to attend this event. The Foundation is also seeking in-kind donations for a fundraising auction that will be open to the public and held at the Ranch at Ucross on Friday, October 10.
Leading the way as the first event of its kind for women, the inaugural Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt was a huge success in 2013. The hunt raised more than $70,000 for the Wyoming Women’s Foundation’s efforts to improve the economic self-sufficiency of women in the state. Hunters came from across Wyoming and the nation to participate, including prominent leaders like WyomingSupreme Court Chief Justice Marilyn Kite, who helped found the hunt. Special guests also included Julie Golob, captain of Smith & Wesson’s highly successful shooting team, and outdoor writer Jim Zumbo. Of the 34 total hunters in 2013, 32 harvested antelope and seven women harvested for the first time.
