Katherine Grand pens “DamselFly Fisher” and writes, “I didn’t grow up in a hunting or fishing family, but my passion for the outdoors led me to my current lifestyle. I have also been very lucky to meet people that took me under their wings and taught me about hunting and fishing. These people include my falconry sponsor, Donald Adams, and my fiancé, Eric Grand, who taught me everything I know about fly fishing. Falconry, along with fly fishing, are my two greatest passions in life. In addition to falconry I enjoy hunting elk, deer, ducks, upland birds, and rabbits to name a few. Fly fishing for me is equally as enthralling. I fish year-round and I love spending time on the river, perfecting my drift, and being physically connected to another creature. I also love to float the river in the summer on our raft, and my kick boat. My fiancé and I both love to row just as much as we like to fish and we go on a float almost every evening in the summer, even after we have rowed for clients all day.
“Furthermore, I really enjoying fishing with other women and helping them to improve their skills and enjoyment of the sport. That is why I founded the Gunnison Valley Chapter of Colorado Women Flyfishers, of which I am the president and founder. I created this chapter to encourage local women in the Gunnison Valley to improve their skills, and have fun in the outdoors in the company other woman. My other outdoor activities include horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, ice fishing, and white water rafting. I often feel like there are not enough hours in the day to spend outside doing the things I love.”
