Hanna Pike gets her first elk

Prois Hunting Apparel’s CEO, Kirstie Pike, contributes to Human Events online publication with an article about her daughter’s first elk, a 7×6 bull. Kirstie gets to the heart of hunting and why this tradition should be passed along to our sons and daughters in this essay here. Teena-
I can appreciate the fact that you do not hunt, you do not agree with hunting and you do not want to read about hunters. It is your choice and I certainly don’t fault you for your beliefs. Now- that said, I must ask why you then choose to read about this sport and post infalmmatory comments about people who do hunt? I am not a fan of PETA, but I am not really inclined to spend my time reading about it and posting mean-spirited comments about it. Call me crazy…oh wait, you essentially did that already.

I respect your beliefs and would not ever expect you to change those beliefs. However, comments about me and my family are not necessary at any time. Just because you do not agree or understand does not make it wrong or murderous. As this is clearly something you do not and cannot understand, might I suggest your reading be directed more toward what you personally can appreciate.

    Best-

Good Heavens! It’s difficult to square Kirstie Pike’s professed love of nature with trophy hunting. Honestly, I’d like to see this family of hunters move into the current century. It may be true that human beings have dominion over the animal world, but dominion means care-taking, not life-taking. The more we learn about the inner life of animals, the less sense it makes to slaughter them for sport. There is something primitive and disgusting about a killer standing over the corpse of its victim, high-powered rifle in hand. How about photographing these magnificent creatures instead of murdering them?

Thank you for your comments at The WON. I would like to invite you to open your mind to the idea that hunters are the true conservatives in this country — with our wallets, with our attitudes and with our choices of eating free range meat. Murder is a very subjective word, and your language reflects your ignorance, Teena. It is legal to hunt and kill animals. It is natural to be at the top of the food chain. It is healthy to eat wild game.
