Gear Court: Smoking up the neighborhood … legally

One of the things my husband and I have been looking to purchase recently is an outside electric smoker. A friend recently purchased one and the meat was absolutely delicious and tender.  And the flavor; you can’t ever go wrong with that nice smoky flavor.

After doing a bit of research, we had it narrowed down to a couple of models. I’ll admit, I’m a bargain shopper so we watched our local sale papers and researched several online retailers.  We finally found our  electric smoker at a very good price at Cabelas.  We were sold and the very next day my hunting husband couldn’t wait to smoke up the neighborhood.

The electric smokers are designed for outdoor use as long as you have an electrical outlet you can hook up to.  The wire trays are spaced out enough to hold smaller pieces of meat as well as larger meats like a whole turkey or chicken.  At the bottom of the unit are a couple of trays for your smoking chips and water. And there are so many flavored smoking chips to choose from depending on your preference.  Our unit also included a few recipes, instructions on temperature control and cook times.  You can also find more than enough information online.

Within a week we’ve cooked chicken wings, ribs and venison sticks. They were oh so good and the smoker was well worth the purchase.

You can read more about the electric smoker at The Hunter’s Wife.
