Guru Huntress: Her arrows fly to the ‘green’ with Big Green Targets

The season is finally here … Pre-Season that is!! Time to inspect equipment and take stock of hunting gear.

Now is the time I normally start a regular practice and conditioning regimen with my hunting bow in anticipation of opening day. While storing targets at the end of last season, it was evident that we needed new targets for our practice range. With that in mind, I set out on my search for practice targets: both block style and 3-D targets.

I was fond of the idea of a “Green” target and even used one last year, but it was heavy and cumbersome to move around.  The target also had filler that was abrasive on carbon arrow shafts. I felt there had to be a target labeled “green” on the market that would be practical and durable.

I found that target at the 27th Annual Deer and Turkey Expo in Birmingham, Alabama — the Big Green Target. The Big Green Targets are made from 100-percent-recycled materials. The block-style targets are constructed of a heat-bonded foam outer core that is packed with recycled fabric filler and a closed foam target face. Target edges are plastic heat wrapped making the target weatherproof. A handy reinforced nylon handle tops the target for easy carrying.

I used both the Outfitter Pro 28x28x14 and Super Pro 20x16x14 targets and found that both had remarkable stopping power. One of the features that I was most impressed with was easy arrow removal. The dark facing on the target made the bold white screen- printed images easy to see.

The standard bag targets are made of all-weather polypropylene, with sewn bottom closure that can be used as a standing target or as a hanging target with the built-in grommets. The deluxe bag incorporates a carrying handle and a Velcro closure on the bottom for easy bag replacement.

The advanced technologies incorporated in the Big Green Targets allow them to withstand thousands of shots. The price makes these targets the best targets available on the market compared to a price/performance ratio. Big Green Targets are available in field point bags, field point foam targets, broadhead targets and indoor/outdoor range targets.

The durable 100-percent recycled, weatherproof Big Green Targets will sweep the archery industry by storm in the coming months. You can see all of the targets available at http://www.biggreentargets.com/ and even find a monthly special. The manufacturer of this product is so adamant on recycled products that they even accept all used Big Green Targets for recycling.

I just looked at one of the Big Green Targets at Sportsman’s Wearhouse yesterday. I liked the large size of the target. I didn’t buy it buy now I will certainly go back and take a better look at it. Thanks for the review!

As a member of a local bowmen’s club that has a high focus on youth activities and being strong environmental /land stewards, we are always seeking opportunities to increase our efforts to protect/preserve/restore what we have. I am currently working on the development of a land grant that can only be developed for outdoor activities that help preserve the land for future generations and contributes to protecting the environment – a green focus. After reading about the Big Green Targets, I am excited about the prospect of adding them into the grant proposal. As they offer a multitude of target options that are green products, they would serve our needs for the variety of activities we are involved in, while helping meet the grant requirements. Thank you for posting this article…it is exciting news!
