Babbs in the Woods: Here's yer sign

We just returned from a great weekend in Gunnison,Colo., where I grouse-hunted with Olympic biathletes Lanny and Tracy Barnes and they kicked my tail all over a mountain near Crested Butte. The weekend, courtesy of Katherine Browne and Kirstie Pike’s planning for the first annual Women’s Outdoor Media Association retreat, also included spending a day observing the 3,000-year-old tradition of falconry at work, fly fishing on the Gunnison for rainbows, browns and red salmon and a whole lot of fun. You’ll be reading about it as the photos get downloaded.

But first … since I’m also a travel writer, I like to notice things, and lately, I’ve been noticing signs. In fact, I’ve started a little sign collection.

Here are two of my favorites. The first one is from a kitchen near the neonatal intensive care unit where I visited recently. The second one is from a convenience store restroom near Jefferson, Colo.

No problem.

You know, once you really start looking for homemade or other types of signs, they appear everywhere. Or, I also like to find bizarre collections of yard ornaments; I mean, what does that say about someone.

Too much fun was had by all this past four days on the first annual WOMA retreat! Words can’t describe how much fun we had though maybe the photos we’ll be sending and the video we’ll be editing will help!
