SHE Outdoor Apparel celebrates women who have overcome difficult odds and who inspire those around them with the creation of the SHE’s Spirit of the Survivor Award. SHE Outdoor Apparel is pleased to announce Christy Zedan as the 2010 SHE’s Spirit of the Survivor winner.
Christy was nominated by friends and family for being an inspiration, overcoming multiple challenges and remaining a positive role model in spite of difficulties in her life. From her own premature birth, to the loss of her mother at an early age, raising an autistic brother and then facing the onset of blindness in one eye as an adult, Christy continues to exemplify the spirit of a survivor.
“She shows by example that you can be male or female, short or tall, and even half blind, and still be able to excel in the sport of hunting. All you have to do is work hard at it and your best will show,” said George Zedan, Christy’s husband. “She has shown no matter what kind of odds are against you, if you have a goal, with hard work and determination you can obtain it.”
Christy’s mother-in-law recalls. “Christy inspired me to try hunting last year for the very first time. Christy was in the deer stand with me and whispered some hunting tips to me while we sat quietly. Just before 5:00 p.m. in the evening a herd of deer came out from the woods, and I took aim and I shot my first deer, a doe, and right through the heart. Christy and I were both so excited! Christy is a very patient and calm woman, her patience in teaching me how to hunt has made such a big difference to me to try new adventures and conquer challenges in my life as well to meet some of the goals and dreams I have had.”
A once-in-a-lifetime prize package will be presented Christy.
