Fishing rod builders unite to create rods for wounded soldiers

This year the Rods for Soldiers Program projects it will deliver 150 custom-made fishing rods to wounded soldiers, or to firemen and policemen wounded in the line of duty. The program, initiated three years ago by Vietnam Vet Pat Helton, of West Columbia, Texas, accepts custom-built fishing rods from rod builders across the nation and donates them to worthy recipients. Often, fishing is a means to recovery for soldiers and others injured while on duty. Read about Helton’s vision and the growth of this fantastic program in The Topeka Capital-Journal.
