Guru Huntress: Her game is good … thanks to FoodSaver GameSaver Silver Vacuum Packaging System

With two hunters in the household, our freezer tends to stay full year round. Add to the equation the fact that we are away more than we are at home — equals game and fish that will be stored in the freezer for extended periods before being consumed.  It was important to find a solution for this problem.

In the past, I have used Zip Lock Freezer bags, butcher waxed paper with freezer tape and various type containers. With these options, I was lucky for fish or turkey breast to last six months without getting freezer burned. The problem seemed to be the air that these options allowed to be exposed the products.

I bought a FoodSaver® several years ago to help solve this problem and to help make storage much easier in our stand up commercial freezer. Although this model worked well, I didn’t have an option for larger items, extended or custom vacuum seal, or mobility; which was sometimes necessary. The model I had did not have the convenience of bag storage and a roll cutter for custom-sized bags.

FoodSaver GameSaver Vacuum Sealing System

While attending Shot Show in Las Vegas, Nev., I stopped at the Tilia booth to see a new product made with hunters, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts in mind: The FoodSaver® GameSaver® Silver Vacuum Packaging System by Tilia®.

The first thing I noticed was the large size of the unit and the rugged design. The unit not only incorporated bag storage and a bag cutter; it also had a tube storage slot for the vacuum tube and storage on the unit for the 110V AC electric cord. The unit is equipped with a 15-foot, 12-Volt DC adapter so the unit works anywhere the need should arise. The unit incorporates an easy locking latch and has a unique built-in handle for easy transport.

The powerful unit offers simple two-button operation and progress lights for easy use. The rubberized buttons make them easy to use and clean when you have soiled or wet hands from packing bags for sealing. The new design has an extra large drip tray. Included in the package are one 10′ roll each of 8” and 11” bag material, five 1-quart bags and five 1-gallon bags. The overall dimensions of the unit is 21-1/2” x 8-1/2” x 3-1/2”.

I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to use the FoodSaver® GameSaver® on turkey and hog over the last few months and found that the unit, with the locking latch, was actually easier to use than the previous unit. The vacuum feature was superior on the larger bags than I had experienced in the past with my smaller unit.

I feel confident that I will be able to put the FoodSaver® GameSaver® Silver Vacuum Packaging System by Tilia® to use for many more seasons. I am also confident in Tilia’s customer service after the purchase; I have had the opportunity to speak with the company’s representatives in the past. You can see all the features and read more about this product.
