Keeping up with the sisters … Barnes’ twins continue to train with ‘ouch’ workouts

The Barnes' twins.

Tracy and I wanted to update you on the progress we’ve made in our training so far. We’ve been training hard in Durango, Colo., for the past several weeks at altitude preparing for our next set of races which will be in Utah the 18th and 20th of October. Our last races in Vermont, which were the US and North American Summer National Championships, we left having cinched the top spots in points. The points awarded at those races and the ones in Utah, will determine who gets to race World Cups this winter and right now, Tracy and I are sitting one and two on the points list. We are looking forward to our races in Utah after bringing home a US and North American Summer National Champion title.

After putting in a lot of hours of base training with rollerskiing, running, and biking along with some intensity, we amped it up and have started to do a lot more intensity and interval workouts … or what we like to call “ouch” workouts. We are pushing the length and speed in our intervals so that when it comes time to race we not only have enough to get us through our 5- 10 mile hilly courses, but give us enough kick to sprint to the finish line after completing that course and beat the german or russian next to us. The first snow in Colorado came last week, so we are itching to see more and get a chance to pull out our skis. We’ve also set up a new biathlon range at our coaches facility which has really helped our shooting as we’ve been getting a lot of practice shooting with a high heart rate. We’ve also been competing in a few 3-gun matches which we believe are great cross training events that help us not only hone our shooting skills, but help us with shooting while under pressure.

We head out to Utah on October 1st to make our final preparations before the races and get ready for the winter racing season. It won’t be long after those races that we head to Europe and probably won’t be back state side until the end of March. We will send you our racing schedule after our races in Utah. You should be able to watch the races live online if your interested. We’ll also keep our website updated with results and pictures. Thanks so much for all your support. Have a great fall!~Tracy & Lanny Barnes
