Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife offers women’s pheasant hunting workshop

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is offering a number learn-to- hunt workshops and free youth pheasant hunts this month at E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area north of Corvallis.

Participants also need to purchase a hunting license, upland game bird validation and HIP validation before the class.

Adult resident prices are $29.50 for an annual hunting license and $8.50 for an upland game bird validation. There is no fee for HIP validation. Prices are reduced for participants age 17 and under. Licenses and validations can be purchased online or at a license sales agent.

Here are the workshops:

Friday, Sept. 19, Women’s Pheasant Hunting Workshop: Half-day session of shotgun skills training followed by afternoon pheasant hunt with a guide and hunting dog. Cost: $62, minimum age 18. Participants need hunting license, upland game bird validation and HIP.

Friday, Sept. 26, Adult Pheasant Hunting Workshop: Half-day session of shotgun skills training followed by afternoon pheasant hunt with a guide and hunting dog. Cost: $62, minimum age 18. Participants need hunting license, upland game bird validation and HIP.

Saturday, Sept. 21, Mentored Youth Pheasant Hunt: Open to youth age 9 years of age or older and they don’t need hunter education to hunt under the Mentored Youth program. Includes hunter safety discussion, shotgun skills clinic followed by afternoon of pheasant hunting with volunteer guide and dog. Youth must be accompanied by a paying adult and hunt on adult’s tags. Cost: $62 for adult/youth pair.

Sept. 20, 27 and 28, Free Youth Pheasant Hunts (Three separate one-day hunts): Open to youth (age 17 and under) with hunter education certification. Free though youth hunters need a valid hunting license ($14.50) and Harvest Information Program validation (free) to hunt. Youth hunters age 14-17 also need an upland game bird validation ($8.50).
