Winchester Deadly Passion: A Family Tradition on Sportsman Channel

MINNETONKA, MN; (October 6, 2016) — With Winchester celebrating its 150th Anniversary in 2016, Melissa Bachman, host of Winchester Deadly Passion, finds a true gem in her family’s history in a Winchester .30-30 lever-action gun. After learning how this gun came into her family’s hands, Bachman knew she had to take it hog hunting in Texas. Tune in to see this gun come full circle on Winchester Deadly Passion, on Sportsman Channel Sunday, October 9 at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Bachman’s dad, Dale, explains how he always included the family on hunting trips – which planted the seed for Melissa’s love of the outdoors. “We never left her or her brother home by themselves or with a babysitter,” said Dale Bachman. “I think the experience was better because of it.”

The Winchester 94 .30-30 carbine lever-action gun was purchased by Grandfather Bachman from a cousin after it was brought over from Germany. Dale Bachman even took his first whitetail with this gun when he was 14-years-old. “You put that lever action gun in your hands and with the open sights, you just feeling like you’re hunting – you are ready to go,” he concluded.

Melissa knew the perfect hunt to use this gun was a Texas hog hunt. But it was August and the temps were soaring past 100 degrees. After sitting in a stifling blind, she switches to spot and stalk where the lightweight lever-action gun really shows its value.

The Memory Chase segment in this week’s show is 11-year-old Abby Russum from Maryland who is after her first deer with her crossbow. Abby received a Mission Vertical bow, Winchester Waterproof Blanket and swag, Hunter Safety System Vest, Ani-Logics Braggin Rights Attractant, Wildlife Research Center Gold Scent Elimination Pack, Easton Youth Bow Case, Boss Buck Feeders swag, Engel Cooler dry box, Rage Broadheads, Realtree EZ Hanger, Field & Stream backpack, Caldwell Hearing Protection and Moose Utility Division swag for being selected.
