Calling all park lovers – the summer is upon us and it’s the perfect time to explore all that your national parks have to offer! For more than a century, national parks have served as the backdrop for some of our favorite vacations. Trip photographs are family treasures, capturing the joys of visiting a park.
This summer, Find Your Park/Encuentra Tu Parque premier partner Union Pacific Railroad and the National Park Foundation invite you to recreate a vintage park photo as part of the Wonder + Wander Photo Challenge, highlighting the timelessness of adventures enjoyed in America’s national parks.
Go through old family photos to find one from the past to recreate. Not able to find any, or maybe you’re new to national park excursions? Not a problem! We’ve gathered a collection of our favorite national park photos from the past 100 years to use as inspiration.
If you’re able to visit the same park as in your vintage photo, awesome! If not, consider finding a similar one. Each park is unique and there are many lesser-known parks that offer similar experiences and settings. The contest runs from May 22 through September 2, 2019, giving you time to plan and capture your photo entries.
Planning makes all the difference. Be sure to check park hours, entrance fees, where to stay, and other basic information you’ll need before heading out. There are plenty of resources to make sure you’re fully prepared.
Enjoy your trip and make memories both on and off camera with your loved ones. Summertime is a pleasant time to relax and energize, and national parks are known for their health benefits. Regardless of where you visit, be sure to leave no trace — the only evidence of your trip should be photos and memories!
Once you’re home, head over to the Wonder + Wander Photo Challenge page to enter the contest. Select a vintage park photo from a prepopulated gallery or upload your own and pair it with your modern-day recreation. The website will combine the “then” and “now” pictures into a stitched image that will be entered for a chance to win an America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass!
