There are moments when the life you’ve built looks right on paper but feels wrong in your heart. You map out the future and meet every expectation, yet something deeper calls you in another direction. Allie D’Andrea knows that feeling, and she had the courage to follow it.
Raised in Pittsburgh without a hunting background, Allie discovered the outdoors as an adult. “It wasn’t just watching him hunt. It was me trying to figure it out,” she says, recalling the first hunts she shared with the man who is now her husband. The experience sparked a transformation that changed both her career and her life.
Allie earned a bachelor’s degree in emergency medicine and was preparing for physician assistant school. But after working as an EMT and paramedic, she realized that path no longer matched who she was becoming. “I had this aha moment… I don’t think I want to go to PA school anymore,” she remembers. Choosing a new direction, she accepted an internship with a hunting apparel brand in Idaho. There, she launched Outdoors Allie, first on Instagram in 2015 and later on YouTube, sharing her hunts, recipes, and lessons from the field.
That leap of faith built a career and a community rooted in authenticity. What started as a way to share her passion has evolved into a platform that inspires thousands of women to find confidence outdoors. “In the beginning, I knew nothing,” she says. “It was freeing. I was just sharing the fun and joy of it all”.
In this Ascend episode, Allie returns to Pennsylvania for the antlerless muzzleloader season, moving through 4 million acres of public land she once took for granted. “I love being out here, feeling the woods wake up,” she says. Her story came full circle, reminding us all that listening to that quiet pull toward something different can lead you exactly where you belong.
Watch the Ascend episode to see Allie D’Andrea’s journey unfold and to be reminded that every new path starts with one honest step.
