January is full of adventure and discovery for The WON’s Anietra Hamper who is heading to Guyana for a fishing expedition. While Anietra and her partner Ian Henderson, a global fishing guide and tour host, are heading to South America to target many species, they are also on a mission to gather unique content in a way that no one has captured before in that environment.
They will drop into the remote Iwokrama rainforest by light aircraft and an unprecedented amount of gear that they plan to use that must be flown in and boated upriver. Having been to this region multiple times previously, Anietra and Ian will use their knowledge and work with their trusted indigenous Macushi guide to take this epic fishing experience to the next level.
They will target the giants of giants in the Essequibo River with a range of techniques, baits and times of day which will require rough camping among the rest of the wildlife that calls the remote rainforest home, including jaguars and anacondas. While previous trips have produced species totals over 30 in a single visit, Anietra and Ian are looking to up their game even more by going after the IGFA world record for one particular species, the Ripsaw catfish (Oxydoras niger).
