Sportsman Spotlight: Cassidy Orr

Recently we received a message from a proud father, Darren Orr, asking to highlight his daughter Cassidy’s recent journey into the world of hunting and fishing. In his own words, this delighted dad gives us the rundown on Cassidy’s outdoor adventures. And, as Darren put it, so many magazines feature male hunters, and it is nice to see that attention also paid to females in the outdoors. Thank you, Darren, for providing the opportunity for us to learn about and celebrate Cassidy’s new-found passion for being a sportsman. Do you have a similar story you’d like us to share? Drop it right here. ~ The Editors

Cassidy Orr

Twenty-year-old Cassidy Orr found her love for hunting just in the last couple years. Growing up in Western Montana, Cassidy had no interest in hunting until moving to Dillon, Montana, for college. Her boyfriend took her hunting her first time and she was hooked. Not only is Cassidy an avid hunter but she also loves fishing as well.

Cassidy found a love for trout fishing and it grew to sturgeon fishing in Idaho. She loves the outdoors and it shows. Last year she was deer hunting in Eastern Montana and was able to get her first buck, and this year she was able to land another nice buck. Cassidy and her boyfriend love hunting in Eastern Montana.

The love she has gained for hunting and just being in the outdoors shows with the smile on her face when she is in her own out in the woods. She respects nature and conservation and believes in “leave it in better condition than you found it.”

Cassidy also cuts up and processes her meat she gets from her hunts. Hunting can be expensive, but when you are able to process your own meat it saves you a lot of money, you get the cuts you want and can package the meat that serves you best.

Hunting has been a strong tradition in her family as her whole family are hunters who were introduced to hunting from her grandfather. When young, Cassidy would rather hug a deer than shoot a deer—she has always respected them.

Now Cassidy doesn’t see hunting as killing, but that it’s about survival and providing for your family. Plus, the meat tastes great and is a safer option than what you’re getting in stores today. The deer, elk and fish they catch provide food for the whole year.

Cassidy hasn’t gotten her first elk yet, but that’s her next goal is to get a bull elk. With her will and determination I am sure that isn’t far off.
