Revisited: My PCS Story – Jen O’Hara of Girls with Guns Clothing

Jen O’Hara, co-founder of Girls with Guns Clothing, believes that a love for women and their connections with the outdoors can be showcased in an empowering, avant-garde fashion; however, traditions around gun safety and storage are unwavering, especially when it comes to kids. Follow Jen’s example and explore the Project ChildSafe mission at ProjectChildSafe.org.

Jen’s story about her exposure to firearms is emblematic of many other Americans’ introduction to guns; from a young age, she learned to respect firearms, care for them and use them judiciously. As an adult, she earned certification as a firearms instructor, and today is well known in concealed carry circles of northern California for her training.

In the 21st Century, women and men alike are mixing firearm culture with superficially dissimilar passions, like fashion. As a result, there is greater exposure to how guns can enhance almost every demographic and way of life. More women today are empowered, educated and safe, thanks to daring trailblazers like Jen O’Hara lifting up the Project ChildSafe mission.

Jen said, “Today, as the mother of two young daughters, gun safety is not just a professional responsibility — it’s personal.” This crystalline link between Jen and her children speaks to the effects of accountability chased with discipline and care. In fact, she has “ongoing conversations about firearms” with her children and these times “focus on respect, understanding and responsibility.”

Jen added, “In a time when misinformation and emotion often dominate the conversation, I believe teaching the next generation what firearms are, how they function and how to behave safely around them is more important than ever. Education empowers families to make informed, responsible decisions — and that’s where true safety begins.”
