In December of 2022, Springfield Armory introduced the SAINT Victor 9mm carbine, also known as a PCC (pistol caliber carbine). A few years later, in February of 2025, Springfield Armory released the SAINT Victor Pistol in 9mm with a 5.5-inch barrel. Today, the company launches the SAINT Victor 9mm PDW.
First things first. What is a PDW, and why would someone want one? The acronym PDW stands for Personal Defense Weapon. It’s a lightweight, compact firearm that falls between pistols and rifles in size. These firearms offer greater control than a pistol when using the brace, because of the additional point of contact for stabilization. They are also better suited for maneuvering in close quarters and often fit in a bag or backpack, making them easy to transport.
In the Bag
The first thing that caught my eye when I opened the case was the SAINT Victor 9mm PDW’s tungsten gray color. As I always say, “It’s nice to have some color in the world of firearms, which is often a sea of black.”
The next thing I noticed was the 5.5-inch barrel. Yep, it’s a short one, but it has a low-profile hand stop with a roughly textured bottom for your support hand to use as an index point.
Then I focused on the SB Tactical HBPDW pistol brace. It has a low, short profile that includes an ambidextrous QD sling socket and three adjustable positions.
When I first tried to extend it, I pressed the release button by gripping it from over the top and struggled. But then I realized if I pointed the pistol down at an angle and grabbed the brace from behind, I had no problem pressing the release button and adjusting it to the other two positions.
Once I got home and had more time to work with the pistol, I realized the SAINT Victor 9mm PDW has many of the same features I liked in the 9mm carbine I mentioned in a previous article. The 45-degree, short-throw ambidextrous safety, which improves control and speed for both left- and right-handed shooters, is a game changer. Until you feel it and compare it to another safety, you won’t know what you are missing. Also, the flat-faced trigger is clean, crisp and smooth. I’m certain it will perform nicely on the range.

Final Thoughts
I’m excited to head out to the range with the Springfield Armory SAINT Victor 9mm PDW. I’m eager to compare shooting that version to the SAINT Victor 9mm Carbine. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s just a matter of determining which one is best for the purpose I want to use it for.
MSRP: $1,399
