Springfield Armory® Announces Launch of 1911 DS Prodigy™ 3.5” AOS 9mm

Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the release of the 1911 DS Prodigy™ 3.5” AOS 9mm pistol, which pairs a forged 3.5” black diamond-like carbon (DLC)-coated stainless steel bull barrel with a full-length grip module. The result is a pistol that offers compact handling combined with an impressive 18+1 capacity.

The popular Prodigy series of pistols takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with a double-stack design and performance-driven feature set. In addition, the pistols feature slides milled to accept AOS (Agency Optic System) plates with integral rear sights, allowing you to mount today’s most popular optics.

Complementing the 1911 DS Prodigy 3.5” AOS 9mm’s compact black Cerakote® forged carbon steel slide assembly is a recontoured hammer and shortened beavertail grip safety. The result is an appealing combination of compact dimensions and high-performance handling characteristics. In addition, two included 18-round magazines provide generous onboard capacity.

The polymer grip module of the 9mm pistol features the Adaptive Grip Texture treatment. This texture combines short and tall pyramid shapes, with the taller pyramids having a flat top and the short ones having a point. The result is a grip texture that locks solidly into the hand without abrading or catching on clothing. This grip module is attached to a hardcoat-anodized, black Cerakote billet 7075-T6 aluminum frame featuring a strip of Picatinny rail for accessories as well as an ambidextrous manual safety to ensure easy operation with either hand.

The pistol is offered as a standard 18-round capacity model or — for restricted locales — a low- capacity, 10-round variant. Both versions feature an MSRP of $1,582. The pistols come standard with an AOS cover plate, a Docter/Noblex-footprint AOS plate, and a coupon for an additional AOS plate of the customer’s choice at a reduced price of $49.

“The 1911 DS Prodigy offers a modern take on the classic 1911 design through its double- column magazine and slim, polymer grip module,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “This new 3.5” variant with a full 18-round capacity provides shooters with a version as equally at home in an EDC holster as it is on the range.”
