SilencerCo Silencers in 2023

It’s been another interesting year, working in partnership with SilencerCo and its fine range of silencers. This year, we added YouTube shorts and Instagram reels to highlight the topics covered. Here’s what we did on the range with these great additions to the firearms world.

SilencerCo Silencers in 2023

Avery Skipalis on the range with the Aero Precision EPC-9 SilencerCo Silencers

February found Avery Skipalis building her first AR, and she chose to use the SilencerCo ASR Single Port Muzzle Brake. She writes, “The ASR single port muzzle brake makes it much easier to attach and detach your suppressor with only one hand.” This muzzle brake is compatible with Silencerco’s ASR Mount, one of the best in the business today.

Nancy Keaton shooting SilencerCo Silencer

In March, Nancy Keaton wrote “SilencerCo Explains – Silencers 101,” a primer on the world of silencers according to Shauna Young, SilencerCo’s PR and E-commerce specialist. If you want to understand the basics of owning a suppressor, check it out. One of the most valuable pieces of information to come out of this piece concerned how to know which suppressor to buy: “Figuring out which silencer to buy largely depends on the purpose for which it is being used. SilencerCo has a suppressor for almost any need and customers can look through our current products at https://silencerco.com/silencers/. Our customer service team is also extremely knowledgeable in silencer applications and can guide first-time suppressor buyers to the right option. We have silencers intended for hunters, precision shooters, everyday shooters, tactical shooters and everything in between.”

In April, I decided to attach a Salvo 12 onto the end of a Weatherby PA-459, intended for personal defense. I wrote, “The Salvo 12 stakes its claim as the ‘first commercially-viable, modular, hearing safe shotgun silencer on the market.’ It will operate with ‘most’ pump and semi-auto shotguns. It measures 12 inches long (at its full configuration) and weighs between 19.6 and 34.4 ounces, depending on which configuration you choose. It is configurable to 6-, 8- and 12-inch lengths.” It operated just fine for me on the range, and the beauty of using a suppressed shotgun is that you don’t have to wear hearing protection and it reduces felt recoil.

Glam shot Ruger-57 with Sparrow22

And then, in May, I went to the range with one of our most popular and searched for terms here at The WON, “the Ruger-57.” I threaded it with a SilencerCo Sparrow 22. The Sparrow 22 lives up to its name by being small and delicate. It weighs only 6.5 ounces. Made of stainless steel, it measures 5.08 inches and comes at the ready to equip guns chambered in these calibers: 22LR, 7WSM, 17HMR, 22MAG, 22WMR, 22 Hornet and 5.7 x 28mm. What started as a work assignment wound up as a fun experience on the range with the hubs.

Cleaning SilencerCo Omega 36M

In June, Avery weighed in again – this time on “Suppressor Maintenance.” She explains the nuances of cleaning the various types of silencers, including pistol, rimfire and rifle. If you own a suppressor, it’s good to know how to keep it clean and performing at its peak.

AR with Velos LBP SilencerCo Silencers

In July, I took a hard look at ASRs and how these active spring retention systems help you to mount an effective  silencer to your firearm. SilencerCo sells several suppressors that can use an ASR mount as well as a traditional direct-thread mount, three different muzzle devices compatible with ASR, and several different ASR mounts.

In August, I attached that Salvo 12 to a personal defense shotgun for workplace defense, in essence, another shotgun other than the one in the former review. For this review, I shot a Remington 870 DM. I had to check with SilencerCo’s excellent customer service for this job, though, and they came through – professionally and quickly. I was happy with the way the shotgun patterned and worked with the shorter version of the Salvo 12.

Woman with SilencerCo Silencers AR

In September, my senior citizen friend, Nancy, came to the range to shoot an AR equipped with the new Velos LBP. She was new to ARs and to silencers and walked away impressed, and I think, a believer. The Velos LBP has been designed specifically using low back-pressure technology. Otherwise known as blow-back (that annoying gas and unburned powder particles that “blow back” through the ejection port and the charging handle channel after discharging a suppressed AR – usually into the eye area of a shooter), the Velos does a good job of managing this problem and also, suppresses sound.

In October, I used the Velos for the purpose of finding what happens to the point of impact (POI) when SilencerCo’s new Velos LBP gets attached to a Stag 15 Pursuit Pro rifle with a BSF carbon fiber barrel? The Stag Arms gun was in production at the time, and I know our readers love to see these hot new guns coupled with SilencerCo’s suppressors. I was impressed, and really, hated to send this one back.

Avery shooting on the range with a suppressor

In November, Avery returned with helpful tips on how to purchase a silencer. She runs down the need-to-know pieces of this intricate puzzle. Having just purchased a few silencers, I’ve been privy to this process and even, been denied because of a small typo on a form. You’ll want to cross all your t’s and dot your i’s on this journey, for sure.

Be sure to check out SilencerCo’s line of silencers that work well, with a true support team behind them.
